Hey there! I am Julianna Waller, MSW, LSW and I am ecstatic to provide therapy services here at Rivers & Roads Psychotherapy. I currently have my Master's in Social Work and am licensed to provide therapy in the state of Ohio under the supervision of Amy Smitke, LISW-S.

I have had the pleasure of working in different areas of the mental health field including domestic violence, sexual assault, drug and alcohol, and LGBTQIA+.

I have been drawn to work with teens and young adults who deal with symptoms of Chronic Illnesses, Bipolar, Borderline Personality Disorder, Addiction, Anxiety, and Depression.

I use Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).  This is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that comes from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Individuals learn to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with their inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are natural responses to certain situations that should not prevent them from moving forward in their lives. With this understanding, individuals begin to accept their hardships and commit to making necessary changes in their behavior, regardless of what is going on in their lives and how they feel about it.

I am now trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). After starting my own EMDR journey, I immediately knew I must share it with others. Becoming a therapist with EMDR training has been such a rewarding experience. Targeting negative core beliefs, desensitizing icky memories, and combining positive cognitions accelerate healing journeys in extraordinary ways. Overcoming challenges and moving forward with the life we want after EMDR is a beautiful process. Incorporating EMDR into my sessions has been life-changing for both myself and my clients. Perspectives change realities and I am here to support you along the way.

I have received certificates in understanding motivating behavior change, harm reduction interventions that promote health, and person-centered & recovery-oriented treatment. I have also obtained a certificate in strategies for improving client engagement in psychosis services across the lifespan.

I have always had a big connection with animals and have seen how they can add to the therapeutic process. Bailey is my 1-year-old boxer mix who loves to assist in sessions. She can be requested to come into the therapy session to help process emotions of sadness, loneliness, irritability, stress, and so much more.

I look forward to working with you!
